The Pollination Project
Summer 2007. The Basement's in temporary premises - six rooms crammed into
one -waiting to hear about its new space in the city centre.... This is
frustrating as we can't run our 'open access' sessions - where young people
from all over the city just turn up and do all kinds of music.
BUT having a
crammed space has given us new chances to work closely with a small group of
young people - out of this has come a range of staggeringly good young
people-led projects...
Pollination is one of these projects.
19-year-old music producer and DJ Jagos has been part of the Basement for a
couple of years. A young man of vision, imagination and with contacts with
young music artists across the city, he applied for a grant from the Youth
Opportunity Fund to put together a CD featuring up-and-coming young urban
artists. It was a steep learning curve, covering everything from costing out
production to commissioning graphic designers, booking launch venues and
running press campaigns.
The Basement supported him on this journey - from
managing money to proofreading press releases, picking up T shirts and
mastering tracks.
It's been a pleasure for the Basement and demonstrates what we're all
about - supporting young people to be everything they can be.
Big thanks to Jagos - man of the future.
