What We Do
The Basement Studio works with a wide range of young people, some are trying activities like DJing, MCing, playing an instrument or singing, for the first time - others know what to do but want help working on something new.

Open Access sessions.
Young people book or drop in for 40 min slots in the live or control room. They choose what they want to do - some of them have a go at drumming or DJing for the first time, others know what they want to do and come to the Basement to get expert help. Wherever their starting point is, Basement tutors help them to find out more and achieve what they want.

Music Technology
We teach Music Technology skills on Wednesday evenings. All the sessions are in small groups and run in an informal & relaxed way. You can work one-to-one with Tutors learning to use software like Reason, Adobe Audition, Cakewalk Sonar, Cubase etc. to create your own music. We also have plenty of recording equipment, desks and effects so you can get as involved as you like - e.g. learn to mix down your own CD or Minidisk recordings.

Workshops
In the run-up to the performances the Basement puts on a series of workshops before each performance covering things like rehearsing, working with a PA, projecting yourself on stage etc. plus support and feedback for acts who want to perform.
The Basement is also constantly involved in running young people's music and media workshops for all kinds of organizations and events - from youth centres to community groups, and from carnivals to activity programmes or talent shows.

Performance
The Basement is proud to be putting on performance showcases across Bristol as part of the 'Remix' programme with singers, DJs, MCs, musicians, composers and lyricists live on stage - it's a chance for everyone to see what a talented performers young Bristol people are.

Projects
In the past we've worked on a range of special projects - from soundtracks for films to a young people's radio station, and contributed to BBC programmes plus other documentaries and released our own CDs. We're always interested in new ideas that open up opportunities for young people and music and are currently working on an interactive music website for young people.
